Amy Cartagena, LMSW

Mental Health Therapist

Amy Cartagena is an LMSW and SIFI Mental Health therapist who graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelors in Sociology and Master of Social Work with a focus in Clinical Social Work and Mental Health. She provides psychotherapy therapy to support folx who struggle with anxiety, depression, inner criticism, and relationship dynamics through self-exploration, self-compassion, challenging behaviors and assisting with the development of coping strategies and working to promote positive changes in one's life. Her passion for social issues and mental health has resonated with her past volunteer work, internships, work experiences, education and personal life experiences. She has worked in various social service settings such as Supportive housing, Department of Homeless Services, School Base Social Work, Clinical Social Work and has an extensive work history in administration and management in the field. Additionally, she has worked with various projects and committees educating organizations around fostering Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Furthermore, she has worked in advocacy for LGBTQIA+ and strengthened others’ understanding around gender theory/identities, intersectionality, and growing social issues. Her various projects fostered her education around macro power dynamics, systemic inequalities, and lack of resources distribution for marginalized communities. “It’s a privilege to be able to bear witness to someone’s story when they may not have had the chance to tell it before.”
